Job Title: Service Manager (Out of Hours)

 

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Service Manager to oversee our field engineering team, primarily during out-of-hours operations. This role is crucial in managing routine repair and maintenance work on bus CCTV systems at customer depots. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our team of field engineers is well-supported, effectively scheduled, and equipped with the necessary stock and tools to perform their duties efficiently.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1. Team Management and Support:

   - Act as the line manager for the field engineering team, providing support, guidance, and leadership.

   - Conduct engineering reviews focusing on performance, best practices, including on-site assessments.

 

2. Work Scheduling and Coordination:

   - Plan and manage the daily work schedules of field engineers.

   - Liaise with customer managers to coordinate work priorities, scheduling, and vehicle availability.

 

3. Work Monitoring and Follow-up:

   - Monitor the quality and completion of work done by engineers, following up as necessary.

   - Communicate with the administrative team for job closure and billing processes.

 

4. Resource Management:

   - Ensure that engineers are adequately stocked with necessary parts and tools.

   - Manage the allocation and maintenance of engineering stock, parts, and tooling.

 

5. Vehicle Fleet Management:

   - Oversee engineering fleet vehicle management, including liaising with head office staff to organise servicing, MOT, repairs, and fuel card administration.

 

6. Customer and Internal Communication:

   - Maintain effective communication with customers, providing updates and gathering feedback.

   - Serve as the single point of contact for engineers regarding professional matters, including holidays and issues.

 

7. Recruitment and Training:

   - Participate in the recruitment and training of new staff, ensuring they are well-integrated and trained for their roles.

 

8. Operational Support:

   - Support the Operations Manager with factory new builds and other operational tasks as required.

   - Provide feedback to the Operations Manager on the performance of the engineers, the issues they fact and work closely to improve the operations delivery of the engineering team.

 

 

9. Out of Hours Support:

   - Provide occasional out-of-office hours support to engineers through group chats and telephone as well as regular site visits.

 

Ideal Candidate Profile:

 

- Proven experience in a management role within a technical or engineering field, preferably in the Mobile CCTV industry or other vehicle technical products such as telematics, radio communication, ticketing systems, etc.

- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team of field engineers.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Familiarity with engineering tools, stock management, electrical installations.

- Ability to work flexible hours, including providing out-of-hours support.

- Proficiency in using various software tools for scheduling and management.

 

Education and Experience:

 

- A degree in engineering, management, or a related field is preferable but not required.

- Significant experience in a similar role, especially in managing field engineering teams.
