Day to day responsibility for all non-sales activity within the New Business department, including Business Development Executives, tender team, sales database management and implementation.

JOB ROLE:  

To provide senior leadership support to the Sales Director and New Business Sales Support and Implementation teams, with day to day management responsibility for all non-sales activity within the New Business department. This includes responsibility for the Business Development Executive team, tender response and bid function, sales database management and implementation/project management team.

This is a new role with the objective of becoming a senior leader of the New Business support functions. The successful candidate will continue to foster a culture of employee engagement, best practice and working with internal stakeholders to lead a world class sales support function.

The definition of success will naturally vary across each function and a key aspect will be to ensure that the newly created Business Development Executive function is a success.  The role will drive sales demand for the Sales teams through a clear contact strategy designed in partnership with the marketing team. The BDE function will complement our existing bid and database functions to drive forward sales support.

 

ENVIRONMENT:

Reporting to the Sales Director in a dynamic fast paced environment within a rapidly growing organisation. The New Business department is a vibrant team of people who often have to work to tight customer deadlines. The team is split between Sales, Sales Support and Implementation; this role overlies managing the Sales Support & Implementation area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Senior Leadership

  • Operate as a key senior leadership support to the Sales Director
  • Join and contribute to a knowledgeable and experienced management team – offering a non-sales angle to ongoing leadership debate and strategy
  • Provide a clear strategic direction, purpose and leadership to the Sales Support and Implementation functions
  • Support the Sales Director with increasing sales success by ensuring the business has highly skilled sales support teams in place to drive sales demand; whilst maintaining an excellent implementation function to on-board new sales successes
  • Work with the Sales Director to assess telemarketing options across the industry and ultimately deliver a strategy paper that identifies the best model for generating sufficient demand
  • Establish clearly defined roles, career maps and development plans for Sales Support and Implementation functions that drive best value for our employees and our business.
  • Drive forward the new Business Development Executive function mapping out clear pathways to Business Development Manager roles within the sales teams – establishing clear targets, goals, objectives and roles across the team
  • Provide senior leadership support to Implementation team leader and broader team, working closely with Sales Director and Commercial Directors to develop new resource strategy for implementation – minimising active involvement for Business Development Managers whilst delivering a first class handover to Customer Relationship team

Team Management

  • Team management, including carrying out 121s, appraisals and personal development plans.
  • Supervise and manage team workflows to ensure efficiency within the team is maintained, as well as maintaining high internal service levels and SLAs.
  • Supporting the team to achieve their set objectives and targets.
  • Monitor the accuracy and quality of tender responses in partnership with the Senior Tender Executive, seeking to improve any processes where required.
  • Continually seek to develop and improve the quality of presentation, tender and any other customer documentation produced within the new business team.
  • Carry out coaching and training within the team when required.
  • Host regular team meetings to provide a forum for information and ’best practice’ to be shared.
  • Support the Sales Database Manager to deliver high quality monthly board reporting and analysis of all data outputs to the Sales Director.

  • Work with Sales leaders to establish the New Business department as a passionate and innovative department that is driving sales success through a collaborate and energised team
  • Developing an engaging and thriving culture across the New Business department
  • Provide a clear sense of direction and purpose which is shared by the whole team
  • Work closely with the existing management team to ensure that clear communication across all sub teams is developed and maintained – including our field based teams
